At the end of 2015, year 11 students at The Gap State High School went on a school trip to India. Part of the trip involved taking part in a worthwhile project. Money was raised to build toilets for a small school, the Demazong English Academy, in Sikkim, India (bordering Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan). The visit had a profound impact on all who participated and a number of parents have since traveled there and have found the school principal, Pema Bhutia, inspirational. The children are testimony to his efforts. His aim is education, healthy food and a loving community; so the children - who otherwise would have been poor, sold into service or destitute - have the opportunity to become creative and self-reliant. Bardon Strings and Magda's are hosting this fundraising concert for Demazong Academy. Musicians donating their time include: Peace n'Choir (Musical Director: Ann Bermingham), The Gap High School Chamber Strings, Anastasia Hobbs-Brown with Levi Hansen (Singer & accompanist) and Bardon Strings (MD: Anne Keenan).
Come and share a fine afternoon of music and support the future of some children of Sikkim.
