Magda's is pleased to participate in the Qld United Nations Assoc 70th Anniversary celebrations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We're bringing to their celebrations extracts from our production of Dames & Daredevils for Democracy, two Qld women who helped forge Australian democracy: Emma Miller and Maggie Ogg. Dynamic, determined, brave and thinkers of great breadth, these women were leading protagonists who helped create the conditions of our contemporary democratic rights.
Guitar Brisbane is proud to host a masterclass with Hungarian guitarist, András Csáki, featuring students from the Queensland Conservatorium and University of Queensland.
Magda Community Artz present András Csáki; multi-international award winning classical guitarist and Naxos recording artist from Hungary. András began to play the guitar at the age of 11 and has since won over 24 prizes, performed in masterclasses across the globe and was appointed the professor at Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest. This will be a night of incredible music, filled with expression and passion.

Magda's has established a wonderful tradition of presenting some fine acoustic guitar music with musicians heading to us from around the world*. Tonight we are pleased to present three musical compadres playing the original compositions of Brazilian born, Brisbane based guitarist Jaider de Oliveira. Jaider’s compositions feature the beautiful harmonies and uplifting melodies that his home state, Minas Gerais, in Brazil, is known for. Featuring Jaider’s unique guitar playing and vocals, Brendan Hook on saxophones and clarinet and Melbourne based maestro of Brazilian styles Mark Grunden on drums and percussion; JaiBreMar promises an evening of samba, baiao, bossa, choro and jazz. Don’t miss JaiBreMar in this their only Brisbane appearance this year.

Guitar Brisbane and Magda Community Artz present Euphoria!; a new collaboration which brings together one of the world’s finest mandolinists, Masataka Hori, with the exquisite guitar and piano duo, mimi duo ( Duncan Gardiner – guitar and Setsu Masuda – piano), and the combined forces of the wonderful Mandolins in Brisbane. This combination of mandolin, guitars, piano and orchestra promises a concert filled with fun and energy. The musicians will present gorgeous music from Spain, Italy, Japan and Australia, including numerous original works. Vivaldi’s sparkling mandolin Concerto in C Major and the rhythmical guitar concerto Spanish Impressions form the centrepiece of the program, capped off with Masataka Hori’s own orchestral extravaganza, Euphoria! The trio comprising Hori, Gardiner and Masuda will also present two acclaimed pieces dedicated to the victims and survivors of the tsunami disaster that affected vast areas of Japan in 2011.

In 1928, Shakespearean actors, the McAllisters, are forced to leave their daughter, Adversity, at the Emu Swamp Children's Home. They fully intend to return, but things don't go according to plan......

Kermanshah Earthquake Relief Fundraiser: Magda Community Artz is delighted to host a concert of Persian classical music featuring the beautiful sung poetry of great Persian poets such as Mawlana and Hafez. Saba's traditional instruments include santour (hammered dulcimer), oud (fretless lute), shah keman (5 string, 7 sympathetic stringed bowed instrument), tar (long-necked, waisted lute), tonbak (goblet-shaped drum), daf (frame drum with chains). Composers such as Derakhshani, Tajvidi and Farhadpour will be featured.
Danielle Cresp is an excellent teacher with oodles of passion for her craft and many great reviews about her workshop and practice. She has trained for over 12 years in the methods of Action Theater and is currently the ONLY ACTION THEATER PRACTITIONER training artists in Australia!
With a combination of lyrical honesty and charming melodies, Lizzie Flynn writes songs that blend a little satirical storytelling with a lot of joyful emotion. She has been a lead vocalist and songwriter for a variety of bands and theatrical productions and has toured throughout Australia. Lizzie has produced several independent albums, including Hush, which received an Arts Queensland Grant, with the title track described as ‘stunning’ Noel Mengel, The Courier Mail. Her latest album, You & The Open Sky, was launched in September 2017. It is a collection of original songs, which weave audiences through toe-tapping country to tender ballads with songs of lessons learned and love lost. Prisoner in my own Town, from the album, was shortlisted in the 2016 Vanda and Young Songwriter Awards.
