The Brisbane International Guitar Festival, Guitar Brisbane and Magda Community Artz are proud to present the New Zealand Guitar Quartet. Following a sold out 2017 tour of New Zealand, the NZGQ have been hailed as a national treasure, and have received funding help from the government backed Creative New Zealand to bring them to Brisbane in June. Originally based in Wellington New Zealand the NZGQ are now based on both sides of the ditch. Owen Moriarty and Jane Curry in Wellington, Vladimir Gorbach in Sydney and John Couch in Canberra. Internationally accomplished musicians, they play a wide variety of styles from American Bluegrass and Celtic melodies and dances to their critically acclaimed interpretations of Bach’s Third Brandenburg Concerto.
Magda's would like to thank Creative New Zealand for their assistance in bringing the NZGQ to Australia. Without their financial assistance, this tour would not have been possible.

About the New Zealand Guitar Quartet
Hailed as a national music treasure (Christchurch Arts Festival 2014) the New Zealand Guitar Quartet (NZGQ) was formed in 2010. With members Owen Moriarty, Jane Curry, John Couch and Vladimir Gorbach the quartet is now a trans-Tasman ensemble with two members currently based in Australia.
Recent performances include concert tours in China (Centennial Hall, Peking University, Sunrise Concert Hall, Beihang University, Beijing) and Australia (Excelsior Hall (Illawarra, NSW), ANU School of Music (Canberra), and the Glebe Town Hall (Sydney). Nationally, the group has toured several times through both Chamber Music NZ and Arts on Tour (most recently completing a 17 concert tour in 2017).
The NZGQ has two CD releases, with both discs featuring premieres of commissioned work by New Zealand and Australian composers as well as original arrangements by Owen Moriarty. The NZGQ is committed to developing new music for guitar quartet, commissioning award winning composers Bruce Paine (NZ) Marian Budos (AU) and Marek Pasiezcny (Pld).
NZGQ's 2018 engagements include performances at the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America Convention (Louisville Kentucky) USA, Guitarromania (Colima) Mexico, and a performance of Rodrigo's Concierto Andaluz with the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra.
