"Shape Note" aka "Sacred Harp". A wonderful start on Sunday 1st May to this series of Shape Note singing. We had a great turnout of singers who cheerfully sang some sombre songs in our new wonderful venue, Magda Artz! Even the weather improved over the course of the afternoon as we sang our way into Let us Sing, Wondrous Love, Hallelujah, and The Dying Californian, among many others. It all went very well - the people, the venue, the songs, the friendly atmosphere. A great success!

And it's coming again on Sunday 3rd July.

Nothing is weirder than "Sacred Harp"! Its favoured subject matter - the pilgrim, the grave - is stark. Its notation, in which triangles, circles and squares indicate the pitch, looks like cuneiform. Yet it exudes power and integrity. Five people sound like a choir; a dozen like a hundred.

You sing loud ..... You sing for fun ..... No experience or musical knowledge needed.
