* Tin Star deliver stripped back acoustic music that splits the difference between pop/rock and folksy Americana, featuring Penny Boys (The Poachers) on vocals, Cathy Bell (Spot the Dog, The Poachers, Jeremiah) on vocals, fiddle, accordion, and Dan Grant (Jeremiah, Doubting Thomas) vocals and guitar.
Penny's deft, evocative vocals combined with Dan's bold and unabashed vocal delivery, Cathy’s ripping fiddle over bare-bones instrumentation and strong three-part harmonies set this group apart. Leaping from one genre to another in a set, Tin Star count Gillian Welch, Steve Earle, Brandi Carlisle, The Decemberists, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and Elton John as influences.
* Caroline Hammond is a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter of insight, honesty and earthiness will be joined by Craig Claxton. Influenced by a diverse range of musical style from Blues to Gospel, Reggae, African 'hi-life' and coffee house folk, this is acoustic music to move the feet and the soul. Artful, lyrical and profoundly evocative, Caroline's music is essentially about the magic of ordinary things.
* Kicking off the Blackboard will be " Bardon Strings", a local group of keen new comers to playing and performance. Presently meeting on thursday evenings with Bardon musician and teacher, Anne Keenan. The group currently consists of 7 cello players, a bassist and 5 violinists! Following the B/S, will be "The Supreme Optimists" - a dynamic group of musicians developing their performance and presentation skills - with the help of another doyen of SEQld's music scene, Julie Witney. Julie can be contacted at: julie.witney@bigpond.com
